Repetition without monotony
Thirteen identical units in a straight line is a barracks. The two rows are offset against each other so the roofline steps, and the white balcony frames project far enough to throw a shadow that changes across the day.
The timber slatting inside each frame is the only warm material on the elevation, and it appears exactly where a resident stands, which is the point.
Finding your door
Every unit is numbered on the balcony frame in a size readable from a moving car. It sounds trivial until you have visited an estate where it was left out.
Parking runs the full length of the frontage with planted kerbs breaking it into groups, so the terrace never presents an uninterrupted run of vehicles.
